Life on the farm is just simpler. It’s where you can unplug, unwind, and move at a slower pace. There’s no better way to close out the summer than spending time driving a country road and experiencing farm life for an afternoon. Here at Destination Caldwell, we love talking about our ag roots and jump at the opportunity every time we get a chance. We even curated an immersive experience in the form of our AgVenture Trail: A tour of farms, restaurants, and wineries that have deep roots in our local ag community. You can either visit these participating businesses at your leisure or let Snake River Wine Tours do all the driving while you take in the scenery. Either way, it’s an opportunity for you to see up close the farm life. Oftentimes while on the trail, you get to meet the owners, operators, vintners, and farmers who make themselves available to share with you their knowledge and passion for what they do.
In addition to other farms featured on our AgVenture Trail. here is a sample of the participating farms that you can visit while on the trail in late summer.
CHERRY HILL
Cherry Hill Farm has been growing and harvesting fruit in Idaho since 2012, although they’ve been farming in Utah for decades. While their fruit is distributed commercially, they keep a strong focus on connecting with their community. They host seasonal family-friendly events so their neighbors can learn more about farms, fresh produce, and connecting with the earth. You won’t want to miss their seasonal U-pick—the largest U-pick event hosted by Cherry Hill Farms, and it’s happening now! Visit the farm between late July and the beginning of October for fresh apricots, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and apples, as well as a variety of garden vegetables! Harvest time at Cherry Hill is a local favorite.

FRANZ WITTE
In the summer 1971, Franz and Vicki Witte started a Boise landscaping company. No nursery, no maintenance department, just a young couple and their aspirations to build and install awesome landscapes. What started as a summer job turned into one of Idaho’s most successful landscape, maintenance, and garden center companies.
Suddenly, 50 years came and went, and Franz Witte celebrated this milestone anniversary at the new Nampa location. The company expanded its reach as a Boise landscaping company to a Treasure Valley landscaping company. The Nampa site was the old Naugle Hereford Ranch, a well-known cattle farm from years prior. The Treasure Valley recognized the ranch for its stewardship of the ground through farming and the cattle industry. While developing, the goal was to preserve as much historical integrity from the original property as possible. When you visit you will see a large white barn with a red roof built in the late ’30s and the first brick silo in the area built in 1942. An afternoon at Franz Witte is great for the whole family to get outside and enjoy a piece of history while getting your hands a little dirty.

LOVELY HOLLOW
There’s something, ok a FEW things, very special about this flower farm. As mentioned earlier in this journal entry, time runs a little slower here. It’s something that’s hard to describe, you just have to experience it firsthand. The combination of big open skies, the smell of just-bloomed flowers and rows upon rows of bright colors is hard to beat. Check out the events calendar on their website or social media to keep up with all they do on the farm. Click to learn more: Products – Lovely Hollow Farm
“Lovely Hollow is the calm to the chaos; the anchor to the storm. When things sometimes seem unpassable, insurmountable — she is always there to show you that life has seasons. And that, at the end of it all, the sun will always shine. Without fail — the flowers always bloom.”
-Nikki, Lovely Hollow Owner and Farmer
