CULINARY EXPERIENCES WITH SUNNYSLOPE ROOTS

The rich, fertile soil of the Sunnyslope Region has been known for generations as ideal land to grow some of the world’s best produce. Whether it’s for seed production or for us to enjoy right from the tree, these acres of rolling hills are not only feeding Idaho, but the nation and beyond. Many of these family farms have been active and thriving for four or five generations. There are truly living legacies sprinkled throughout this region.

 


 

PEACEFUL BELLY

A newer wave of farm to fork restaurants are popping up in Caldwell and more being added every year. These are run by chefs who capitalize on the fact that their restaurant is just minutes away from the field in which their menu is comprised of. Unless, of course, you’re Peaceful Belly. In their case, they ARE the Sunnyslope farm supplying their own needs! They plant it, grow it, pick it, cook it and serve it! On top of having an incredible restaurant, they are also a farm, cidery, community garden and they offer dozens of classes and camps for all ages. To say they are unique is an understatement.

The Cidery at Peaceful Belly – They love apples and they love cider! Idaho has an ideal climate to grow apples, and Peaceful Belly takes full advantage of this in their cider creations. They currently have eight ciders on their menu, each one unique, so there’s a brew for every palate. One of their ciders they’ve named, “Dry Creek.” They describe it as, “A classic farmhouse style. Thirst-quenching, simple, dry and refreshing. Tastes like finding a cold flowing creek in our beloved high desert.

 


 

CASA ANEJO

812 Main St, Downtown Caldwell

This fun, colorful Chicano-inspired space was formed by a duo who joined forces with a shared vision: to bring their culture to the Treasure Valley. Drawing from their upbringing in Chicano households, they united to establish an environment that beautifully embodies the fusion of Mexican and American cultures. And they do it so well! This collective aspiration gave birth to Casa Añejo, a remarkable Chicano restaurant boasting a captivating ambiance, delectable dishes, and extraordinary cocktails. It’s a true testament to cultural harmony.

What makes Casa Anejo stand out is their care for what ingredients go in their culinary creations. They think locally. They source their meats and produce from Sunnyslope and surrounding ranches and farms, and the difference is noticeable in every dish they perfect.

 


 

Cliff’s Country Market

217 Blaine St, Downtown Caldwell

Take your pick of Cliff’s Sunnyslope offerings. Their new deli addition has a motto that says it best: “From farm to deli then straight to you!” That about sums it up for this local favorite market. Tucked away near the edge of Downtown is a market packed with farm fresh ingredients for your table. Better yet, take a night off cooking and let them do the work for you! They offer an in-house bakery (with GF staples), hot or cold sandwiches from their new deli, and hearty, scratch-made soups (just in time for fall).

Early fall harvest in Caldwell is hard to beat: pumpkins, squashes, apples, potatoes, and onions. If it’s locally grown in the ground, you’ll find it at Cliff’s all season long.
