Last Saturday we said yes to trying Goat Yoga with Namaste in the Country, one of our newest AgVenture Trail Members. Owner Rochelle and her Goat Yoga Instructor Charlotte started this experience just this past year! And let me tell you, we had no idea what to expect from this but it was truly so much fun. Goat yoga is actually just a standard yoga class with the added joy of goats wandering around you.
Namaste in the Country is nestled in the countryside of Caldwell and located on Perch Road, just around the bend of Lake Lowell. If you are arriving from Downtown Caldwell you will turn right onto a dirt road immediately after you pass over the canal. We recommend bringing your own yoga mat although they do have some on-site if you happen to forget yours! You will also want to avoid wearing anything too fancy, the goats tend to nibble on your clothes...especially if you are wearing a zipper. They are very social creatures who walk around during the yoga session and will sometimes walk right up to you for a sniff.
Don't feel discouraged if you've never tried yoga before or it's been a while. The instructors are very warm and welcoming, they will also give you tips on how to adjust your position or pose as needed. There are so many benefits to yoga like improving your strength, balance, and flexibility - then throw in some goats and you are sure to smile, laugh, and have a memorable time. Forget what you may have seen or heard before about goats jumping all over you in Goat Yoga - at least not during our session, so no promises - but at the end of the class if you want to pose with one for a picture just ask one of the instructors! It's all about what you are comfortable with.
Rochelle the owner of Namaste in the Country has 10 goats on her property! Each goat has such a different personality which is funny to see as they interact with each other and visitors. My favorite part was learning the names of each goat, they are truly unique which makes it hard to see them as anything other than cute and cuddly pets; they are just part of the family! We can't wait to go back and see her two smallest goats, Buttercup and Ferdinand. Namaste in the Country hosts a variety of classes, events, and workshops that are designed to support the health and well-being of our ever-growing community. If you don't happen to be a fan of goats...don't worry, they also have classes sans critters.
